Wiki Reflection: engagement activity 4

The wiki activity was reflective of the learning theories of constructivism, cognitivism, connectivism and behaviorism.
Design features of the wiki reflected constructivism through engaging learning as an active process of constructing knowledge. Mobile phone information was constructed based on learners’ personal experiences and presumption of a school classroom environment. The social platform of the wiki allowed for social negotiation, testing and reflection for learners to extend and refine their knowledge.
The Wiki allows users to absorb information, process and map information as well as contribute to the information, which is characteristic of cognitvision learning.
The wiki was designed with learning characteristics of connectivism providing a changing foundation where learner decisions are based on new information that is regularly being acquired with learning and knowledge resting in range of opinions.
Behaviourism is seen as a characteristic of the wiki in the requirement of active physical interaction with the wiki in contribution of content and interaction with information (links, design elements etc).
Interacting with the wiki was quite stimulating and engaging.  Higher order thinking was stimulated as many ideas and knowledge was already presented by fellow learners pushing you to further reflect on cultural issues, behaviors, beliefs and teaching/learning capabilities of mobile phones to contribute productive fresh information.
This could also lead to people feeling over whelmed and not participate fully in the activity mitigating there is nothing left to contribute. To resolve this possible issue specification for learner contribution of only one idea/information for each section could offer resolution as well as help with learner time management.
I love the concepts and possibilities that come to mind utilizing wiki’s for educational purposes. Wiki’s would provide a platform of multiple learning theories and styles creating a great pedagogy ICT tool for engagement of learning within all subject areas.
The learning scaffold of the wiki encourages a diversity of opinions; providing a virtual environment for presentation of a range of perspectives without the need for public speaking and relaxes the confinement of peer pressure amongst learners.
Overall I found this wiki activity challenging and has pushed a definition of my understandings on learning theories, strategies and styles. Wiki is an interactive ICT tool to which the educational possibilities for learning are continual.
